MOTS-c is a 16-amino-acid peptide encoded in the mitochondrial genome. Research examines its role as a regulator of metabolic homeostasis, with documented interest in AMPK activation, glucose utilisation assays and exercise-response models. The peptide was described by Lee et al. (Cell Metab 2015). It has not received FDA approval, and it is on the FDA's list of bulk substances that compounding pharmacies may not use.
